Appalachian Bicycle Racing Association

Newsletter January 2010

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, I bet I am not the only one who over did it on the cookies. However keeping the weight down in 2010 doesn't look to be a problem with all the events we have planned for 2010!

First ABRA Contest of the New Year!
Congratulations to contest #2 winner Dave Burns of Bridgeport, WV. Dave won a DVD of "Ocean Ride" from our sponsor Global Ride. Dave just beat out my fellow Clydesdale racer Rick Plowman from West Mifflin, PA. Less then one minute separated their emails. Somehow the contest worked out even after my gigantic mistake of sending out the answers with the first email. Well let's see if I can get this one right.

So what are we playing for Rod Roddy? Well Bob, it's a new car.......... oops sorry, I watched too many episodes of the Price is Right when I was younger. This contest's prize is a ProGold Lubrication Prize Pack, including chain lube, grease and bike wash. Just in time to get your machine all lubed up for the start of 2010. Just one question this time, and the idea for this game came from Betsy Shogren.  OK here goes!

How many Hammer Nutrition - Endurolytes packages are in the glass jar?

As always the first person to email me back the correct answer wins. Only ONE guess per person and you have until Feburary's Newsletter to send in your guess or until someone gets the correct number. If no one guesses the correct number by the February Newsletter the person who guess the closest without going over wins. GOOD LUCK!

Morgantown Road Race - APPRS #1
In just three short months the APRRS gets under way with the Morgantown Road Race Present by Pathfinder. We fully expect this year's event to be the largest road race in West Virginia history. Racers have already started to register from as far away as New York and South Carolina, so if you are racing Cat 5 or Cat 4/5 you may want to consider preregistering to make sure you get in before we reach the field limits in those classes. Also a new course is set for this year and as soon as we get time to map it we'll have the GPS data up on Bikereg.com for you.

New Date for Martinsville Road Race - APPRS #2
Please note date change for this event is now May 8, 2010. Aron Yuveta plans once again to hit you with a hard but rewarding race course. Information will be posted on bikereg.com soon.

Hilly Billy Roubiax - June 26, 2010
The event start and finish location have been finalized and we are happy to announce the we will be using Mylan Park. During the event the park will also be hosting their annual "Rib Fest".  This could come in handy cause you're all going to be hungry after this race! Much road scouting has been completed and all I can say is this is going to be a mean one.  Distance for this event will be around 70 miles, plus or minus a few miles.  This course will take you over "Sate Roads", some paved some dirt and some with mud holes that could eat an entire truck.  Road conditions may include missing bridges, gravel, car size potholes, mud, black top, cow paths and maybe a piece of road kill or two. So leave you expensive Flux-Capacitors and fancy wheels at home. More Information.

Thanks again to our 2010 Series Sponsors!
